Gibbston Valley Lodge & Spa

Our client was developing a brand new luxury destination, featuring an architecturally designed central lodge, cellar door, spa and 24 private villas. We supplied and installed hundreds of joinery units for the villas (i.e. bathrooms, bedheads and wardrobes), as well as one-off pieces for the lodge, cellar door and spa. This included check-in counters for the spa, bookshelves for a library nook and a dramatic wooden bar.

THE BRIEF
The brief called for joinery that was “clean” and “classic”; the designer wanted “a contemporary look with a traditional feel” – something that felt like it had been there longer than it actually had. The finished product is durable for a commercial setting and will age gracefully.

KEY PROJECT FEATURES
• Project drew on a wide variety of materials and merged the use of CNC technology with traditional craftsmanship, shaping and joining
• Lodge featured a dramatic 6.5m curved wooden bar made from solid American white oak
• Spa check-in counters featured grooving and painted wood to appear like upholstery
• Tasting room doors featured brass inserts, with oak veneer orientated to match the design
