The Timaru Courthouse Redevelopment
The Timaru Courthouse redevelopment encompassed a new 2000m2 courtroom complex as well as the restoration of the adjoining, existing, 130-year-old courthouse. The project was completed with the complex operational the whole time, Lunds Joinery worked closely with the main contractor to provide the doors, courtroom fitout and joinery packages, as well as restoration of some key solid timber elements in the existing court house.
The new build involved a purpose built two storey courthouse building which has two court rooms, along with several public spaces, offices and holding cells. As such the level of fitout and finish required for the project was extremely high. Lund’s Joinery provided all of the office joinery as well as specialist solid timber joinery to the public areas.
Special acoustic materials and panels were fitted throughout both stages of the building to achieve high levels of sound deadening that is functional requirement for a building of this type.
Also large amounts of built-in joinery were included in the contract, to achieve the functional requirements of the project. As the court is a prominent part of the local community, the level of finish is very high, something our joiners and carpenters are proud to have achieved.
The strengthening, straightening and replacement of the skylight windows in the existing Courthouse building is one element which took extra care.
